Crosslink CC Church Building Update, July 2009
Dream Big report to the Crosslink Community Church congregation:
As many of you are aware, Crosslink has been actively looking for a larger and hopefully permanent location for a house of worship. In the few years since we began, we have outgrown both our first office space and the first school (EM Yoder Elementary School). Now, as we continue to grow, praise God, we see the ever increasing need for our own building. Here is a summary of our search over the last year:
We had a verbal agreement to lease a new building on Holmes Rd, Mebane, but as negotiations lengthened, the bank holding the mortgage with the owners prevented us from leasing unless we agreed to the bank’s unreasonable and revised terms. They later offered to sell the building, which was only a shell, to us, for over three million dollars. No thanks.
The AO Smith building in Mebane, with over 200,000 square feet and nearly 40 acres seemed a great opportunity for us to purchase. We had a letter of intent and later received a verbal agreement to sell from the company, but were advised by the attorneys of both parties to withdraw from negotiations because of pending legal action against the prior owners, a subsidiary of Dow Chemical, because of alleged hazardous waste contamination of the land. No deal.
Recently we looked at the former Lowes Food on E. Washington St, Mebane, owned by Century Cable. Although there is great potential there, the cost of leasing was prohibitively expensive.
Today, we are continuing to look for either land to build on, or a building suitable for our needs, and are at present talking with a landowner within our target area, about an interesting parcel of land.
We have been pre-qualified by local lenders to build, within certain parameters, and are asking you to please pray and to refer anyone thinking of selling 10-30+ acres, to Pastor Ken Tilley, or to John Barron of the Dream Big team. Please also consider how you may be able to help financially toward the Dream Big Land fund. We have raised over $150,000 so far, toward the project, and have an immediate goal of $300, 000, to help with the down payment and initial costs. We thank all of you who have given so generously in the first campaign.
